The wildlife at Buckhorn Springs is abundant.  The following is a list of sightings here at Buckhorn Springs.

In addition to the Wildlife shown above we have also had sightings of Coyote, Skunk, Deer, and Rabbits.

 

Buckhorn Birds

The following list of birds were identified in the meadows and hills surrounding Buckhorn Springs and in the fields and riparian habitat adjacent to Buckhorn Road as far as the junction with Highway 66. 

The list is a cumulative one beginning with the sighting of two Hairy Woodpeckers by Susan Roths on August 20, 1990.

SWANS, GEESE, DUCKS -  Mallard

HERONS, BITTERNS -  Great Blue Heron

PLOVERS -  Killdeer

GALLINACEOUS BIRDS -  Blue Grouse, California Quail

BIRDS OF PREY -  Red-Tailed Hawk, Turkey Vulture, American Kestrel, Bald Eagle

KINGFISHERS -  Belted Kingfisher

PIGEONS/DOVES -  Mourning Dove, Rock Dove

HUMMINGBIRDS -  Anna's Hummingbird, Allen's Hummingbird, Rufous Hummingbird, Goatsuckers, Common Nighthawk.

WOODPECKERS -  Pileated Woodpecker, Acorn Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker (red-shafted), Red-Breasted Sapsucker, Lewis' Woodpecker.

TYRANT FLYCATCHERS -  Western Kingbird, Western Wood-Pewee

EMPIDONAX COMPLEX -  Pacific-Slope Flycatcher

SWIFTS -  Vaux's Swift

SWALLOWS -  Violet-Green Swallow, Barn Swallow

CROWS/JAYS etc. -  American Crow, Scrub Jay, Steller's Jay

CHICKADEES/TITMICE -  Black-Capped Chickadee, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Plain Titmouse, Bushtit.

NUTHATCHES -  White-Breasted Nuthatch, Red-Breasted Nuthatch.

CREEPERS -  Brown Creeper

WRENS -  House Wren, Winter Wren

KINGLETS/GNATCATCHERS -  Ruby-Crowned Kinglet

THRUSHES -  American Robin, Swainson's Thrush, Western Bluebird.

WAXWINGS - Cedar Waxwing

VIREOS -  Solitary Vireo, Warbling Vireo, American Dipper

WOOD WARBLERS -  Hermit Warbler, Black-Throated Gray Warbler, Nashville Warbler, MacGillivray's Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Yellow Rumpled Warbler.

BLACKBIRDS/ORIOLES etc. -  Brewer's Blackbird, Red-Winged Blackbird, Brown-Headed Cowbird, Northern (Bullock's) Oriole, Meadowlark.

SPARROWS -  Golden-Crowned Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, Rufous-Sided Towhee, California Towhee, Dark-Eyed Junco.

GROSBEAKS -  Black-Headed Grosbeak, Lazuli Bunting.

FINCHES -  Red Crossbill, Purple Finch, American Goldfinch, Lesser Goldfinch, Pine Siskin.

WEAVER FINCHES -  House Sparrow.
