We are in the
beginning stages of developing this web page and will add information
as it is completed. Buckhorn Mineral Springs accomplished 2 substantial
things in 2006, explained below. The director, Bruce Sargent, was
also able to attend the National Trust for Historic Preservation's
annual conference in Portland thanks to a grant from The Historic
Preservation League of Oregon.
A critical step was taken when Buckhorn Mineral Springs received its
final determination letter from the IRS, becoming a well established
and recognized 501c3 non-profit organization. Due to a matching grant
from Oregon's State Historic Preservation Office restoration work
was completed in May on the Vapor Bath House area. The Log Footbridge
was completed, the bucket drop Well Structure and Log Gazebo were
both restored. The Vapor Bath House was also repaired and secured.
Visitors can once again walk over the bridge to explore the area and
taste the mineral water. Photos, the Tidings newspaper article, and
other information will be posted in early 2006.
In 2006 Buckhorn Mineral Springs hopes to begin work on the Physiotherapy
Clinic building. Its restoration will be a major project that will
first necessitate careful study and planning. BMS recently received
a grant from the Oregon Community Foundation, which along with funds
from memberships and other donations, will enable us to begin looking
for an intern to help start the work. Following is a description of
the planned Clinic work and the intern job description.
